I just saw in the paper that the French author Muriel Barbery's novel The Elegance of the Hedgehog has been adapted for the screen, and the film, "The Hedgehog", is playing with subtitles at the Broadway Cinema downtown. I read the novel in English earlier this year and loved it. I had been thinking about it as a Book Club choice when my turn rolls around next year. But now that the film is playing, I want to recommend it to you now and throw out the idea of another girls' night out to the movies! The story is a character study of the inhabitants of an apartment building in Paris and revolves around the concierge and a 12 year old girl. I don't want to elaborate on the plot, as I believe strongly in picking things apart only after reading them.:)
Here is the wikipedia link if you want more info-the first part is a fairly good description without giving too much away: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elegance_of_the_Hedgehog
I am looking over the calendar for a time to see the movie. I doubt we will have the luxury of planning a few weeks out since I am not sure how long it will be in the theater. I will email a proposal soon...........
I'm in!
