November Book Selection Quandary

Hi ladies...

It's time to unveil the book for November, but I find myself with mixed feelings. All year long I have planned to choose "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. It's about her family's quest to spend a year eating only what they could grow themselves or was produced within 100 miles of their small family farm in the Appalachians. It is clever, funny, insightful, and beautifully written.

However...

It seems this year we have spent a lot of time outside of fiction. I know that Arna especially expressed a hope for a novel to discuss. In that case, I have long wanted to do a work by Wallace Stegner. I love "Angle of Repose," but actually would rather discuss "Crossing to Safety." It's a shorter novel which would be helpful as we move into the holiday season, but still a wonderful work of literature.

So...

What are the thoughts of the collective? I could go either way, but thought I would open it up for discussion.

  4. So, after reading the synopsis of each book, (I've never read any Stegner before), I vote for Crossing to Safety. That's my vote and I'm stickin' to it!
