Just finished the book!

Hi Ladies,

I finished Crossing to Safety yesterday, and have to say that I loved it! With this being my first exposure to Stegner's writing, I was blown away by the raw and accessible beauty of his prose. After I read the first chapter, I literally turned to Sterling with the book clasped to my chest, and sighed saying, "I feel like I just tasted from a gourmet meal. I going to savor this one!"

Truly, I feel like the story is something all of us can relate to on one level or another. It left me meditating upon the dynamics of my own marriage, wondering what those characters reflected for me, and what I could change. It also helped me to savor much of what I have. I feel like Stegner's ability to enwrap us in the lives of those characters is incredible. It felt as though I was sitting down for a cozy conversation with a friend, who shared with me his story in a very personal, reflective, and intimate way. Stegner's genius is that it seems so effortless.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw out a shout-out for this book, and thank Cami for introducing us to it. I will be thinking of Charity, Sid, Larry, and Sally for years to come.
