Update on Our Cabin Retreat

Ok, so I thought I should give you a little information about the cabin, for all you holdouts who are still on the undecided list.

The cabin is about 15 minutes north of Huntsville in a town called Liberty. It is directly off a main road so there is no off-roading necessary. It was built initially as a residence so it has the full amenities. There are five sets of bunk beds and four queen beds as well as two hide-a-beds so we should have plenty of space. The cabin is equipped with Blu-ray, wireless internet and a full surround sound speaker system so bring any entertainment options you want. I'd love to have people bring their iPods so we can share new music ideas.

I love breakfast food so I will plan on providing those. I'm leaving the rest of the meals up to the rest of you. There are a few restaurants in the area, none of which I have experienced but I'd love to try them.

As for activities, there is a large fireplace upstairs with three couches, so bring your books. Downstairs there is a television, ping pong table and air hockey. In the garage there is darts and a few sets of cross country skis although there is no guarantee the shoes will fit. We could even go sledding (if it would ever snow). There is a beginners ski resort five minutes down the road and Snowbasin Ski Resort is about 20 minutes away. We keep a fly fishing rod around because the river is just a few steps below the cabin and there is a tiny pond you can sit by and listen to the water although my crazy husband and brother-in-law jumped in on New Years Eve (any takers?)

It sound like we have people who are leaving on Thursday Afternoon (Emily and I), Thursday Evening (Arna) and Friday (possibly Kjersten) so let me know what you are thinking and I'll try and hook everybody up.

  1. I'm in for sure on Friday. I will go up as early as I can although I just lost my regular friday babysitter so I'm not sure when that will be yet. I went to the Mexican place Carlos and Harley's last weekend and it was pretty good. I also have been to the Harley's place in Eden and it is decent and Huntsville BBQ is very good. I'm happy to bring up some food or a meal or whatever.

  2. I can go up anytime after about 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Also, I'd love to make some muffins for breakfast on Friday.

  4. It looks like I'll be able to come up on Friday afternoon/early evening, but I will need a ride with someone coming back down on Saturday.

I'd also love to schedule something at the little spa Tara mentioned. Anyone else interested?

Also, since the last book club I know that several of us directly started reading Stegner's "Angle of Repose." I'm halfway through and would love to discuss it with someone. Any takers?

  6. I was planning on coming back either right after or around lunchtime on Saturday. So, I can drive and then whoever else wants to go home at that time can as well. I started reading Stegner's All the Little Things, I wish I would have read Angle of Repose instead!

  7. Also, I'm thinking about trying my hand at laminate doughs at home (I haven't made them since I was in school about 8 years ago). If I am successful, I will bring up some croissants, possibly filled with chocolate.

  8. Yummmmm! That sounds so good! The jury is still out as to whether I'll go Thursday night or Friday morning. Either way, I'd be happy to do a combined dinner at the cabin or try one of the restaurants nearby. I have a great recipe for Veggie Chili that is super easy, and we love. I just throw some avocado, cheese and some tortilla strips in it, although its fabulous without anything, as well. I'd be happy to bring that up. But I'm also happy to go out, too. Just an idea...
Lish, can I get a ride to and from with you if I end up going in Thursday? I think I need to be back in the afternoon on Saturday.

  9. Yes, for sure Rach! That would be great. I can also go up Friday morning so either way works for me. I have been to Harley & Bucks and I thought it was great. I'm down to go out or eat in, I like all forms of sustenance.

  10. I would like to come up friday evening, but would not like to drive alone, so if anyone wants to carpool with me let me know. I can come back either saturday or sunday. Thanks Tara, the cabin sounds wonderful.

  11. Not that anyone's probably paying attention but I just made some cinnamon rolls and I think they may be just the ticket for sweet bliss.
